LOS ANGELES, CA, July 23, 2026 /24-7PressRelease/ — On July 18th, 2026, in Hollywood, CA, The Hollywood Neighborhood Cleanup team worked in the many blocks around Church of Scientology Celebrity Centre International showing neighbors, business owners, and tourists a positive action by the Church based on L. Ron Hubbard’s book, The Way to Happiness.
Each person interacted with was informed who the group was and why its people were volunteering to clean up Hollywood. And they loved it!
The 12-member volunteer force cleaned along Franklin Ave going west and then headed south down to Hollywood Blvd. At that point they switched from using cleanup tools to distributing The Way to Happiness booklets. They met and gave booklets along the street to both tourists and shopkeepers, with these stories of success:
A man who was selling tourist bus rides to tourists on Hollywood Boulevard was given the booklet and he said, “I know this book! I read this when I was in prison.” He was asked if he had any stories about it, and he said, “Yeah, whenever I would read this book, it would just bring me calm. Sometimes you just gotta read, you know, and I remember this book. I liked it. Excellent.”
The distributors went to a coffee shop to provide the booklet there and the lady working at the counter took it, opened it, and started reading it. She got so happy that she told them to put a stack of booklets on the counter.
The group continued distributing near a beautiful historic Church building that was next to an underpass on a busy street when some people drove by slowly in an SUV, rolled down their window and said, “Did anybody tell you yet today that you guys are awesome?” The group said, “No, but thanks!” and gave them (a girl and a guy) The Way to Happiness booklets.
Then, a man was standing at the corner and stopped and looked at the distributing volunteers. They gave him the booklet and he was very interested and very appreciative. He said he lives down the street and agreed the area needs to be cleaned up. Mike, a security guard on Hollywood Blvd, said he likes to help people and took two booklets. Glen, who works with the Hollywood Partnership, an organization that cleans the Hollywood Blvd streets every day, thanked the volunteers for their work. He asked them if they had ever seen the movie “Pay it Forward” because he loved the concept of passing along good work. The group gave him The Way to Happiness booklet filled out with “To” and “From,” plus a second one so that he could “pay it forward” to another.
The Way to Happiness Cleanup In-Charge, Nick Kurtz, started passing out a bundle of a dozen booklets at a time on the street. Here is his story: “I would approach someone and say, ‘Hey, do you like to help people?’ If they said yes, I would say, ‘Well, you can really pay it forward with this book. It’s a beautiful book about help your parents, love your kids, basically be a good citizen or be a good neighbor to make the world a better place. You can help someone by giving them this book and you can suggest they give another copy to someone else.’ They loved it! There was a family from the Riverside area who took them as they got into their car and were happy to spread the word. Another girl waiting at a cross walk looked at me very suspiciously at first like, ‘Are you really a good person?’ But I started talking with her and she also took a bundle and was happy about it.”
For over 8 years, Church of Scientology Celebrity Centre International has donated The Way to Happiness Booklets for use in local neighborhood clean up activities. The Way to Happiness is written by L. Ron Hubbard, Humanitarian and Founder of the Scientology religion. In the booklet, Mr. Hubbard states, “Happiness lies in engaging in worthwhile activities” . . . “And that is my wish for you.”
